Parks, Jimmie Ray

Jimmie Ray Parks, 65, of Hot Springs went to be with his Lord and Master on January 23, 2014. He was born November 27, 1948.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Thomas Parks, Christine Boyce Parks, and, Mary Josephine Vann. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser and was a member of Pullman Heights United Methodist Church.
He is survived by cousins, Clara Lou Freeland, Nell Mulligan of Camden, Thomas Carroll Urrey of Fort Worth, Texas, very special friends, Jay Campbell, Brian Brooks, Richard Trantham, Michael Yearby and Terry Smith and many other wonderful friends.
Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. in Hot Springs Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., prior to service time. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery with the Reverend Coy Sample officiating.

Pooler, Jimmie Rowland

Jimmie R. Pooler - Jimmie R. Pooler, 86, Wamego, died December 24, 2006, at Kansas City Hospice House. Born on December 25, 1920, in Benton, Arkansas, she was the daughter of James M. and Sibby Isabella Shoppach Rowland. On November 14, 1945, she married H. Dale Pooler and the couple made the move to Wamego. They owned and operated Dale's Market for 20 years before retiring in 1979. Her survivors include: her husband H. Dale Pooler of Wamego; her daughter Pamela Ackley, and husband Jimmie of Louisville, Kentucky; her son Mike Pooler, and wife Lynn of Stillwell; Her sister Janice R. Caple of Cave Springs, Arkansas; four granddaughter grandson and eight great-grandsons. Graveside services were held Saturday, December 30, 2006, at City Cemetery. Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego was in arrangements. Pope, Betty Gaiser

Mrs. Betty G. Pope, aged 54, of Benton, wife of John P. Pope, died Sunday. She was a cashier for Alcoa and a member of First United Methodist Church of Benton. Other survivors include a son, Scotty Pope of Little Rock; a daughter, Mrs. Christina Westbrook of Benton; her mother, Mrs. Wilhelm Gaiser of Benton; and one grandchild, Chad Adam Westbrook of Benton.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist church in Benton with Dr. Roy I. Bagley and the Rev. John Wilcher officiating. Burial will be at Pinecrest Cemetery by Ashby Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Evans, Lacy Landers, Neil Thornton, Harold Davis, Dick Null, A. D. Malone, Harry Jackson and Tony Floyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Ellis, Wayne Wills, Charles Jones, Dr. John D. Wright, AC Westbrook, J. P. Singleton and George Mooney.

Porter, Gary Dwayne

Gary Porter Dies During Hunting Trip
Gary Dwayne Porter, 19, of Benton, a sophomore at State College in Conway, died of an apparent heart attack while deer hunting with five college friends last Saturday in Perry County.
Gary was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Porter of 917 Poplar St.
The group of six students left Conway Friday and drove to the Cedar mountain area to hunt. Included in the group were two other Benton boys, Rick McAdory and Ralph Beaty.
They spit up to commence hunting at dawn Saturday. The hunters reassembled later in the morning but Gary didn't appear. They waited for him until about noon, then became worried and started a search.
When they couldn't find him by late afternoon, the students alerted authorities.
A game warden remembered checking Gary's hunting license near the entrance to a ravine, only a few years from the place where the hunters split up.
Searchers went to the spot and found Gary lying face down with his head cradled on his arm. His gun was leaning against a tree.
Gary was a member of the Student Council while attending Benton High School and was a member of the annual staff. He covered high school sports for The Courier during his senior year.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Ashby Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery.

Powell, Steve

Steve Powell, 55, of Hot Springs died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in a local hospital.
Born October 5, 1947, at Hot Springs, he worked at Razorback Camper and was Baptist. He was predeceased by his father, Brown Lee Powell.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Powell of Hot Springs; one son and daughter-in-law, Forrest and Cindy Powell of Pearcy; his mother, Dolores Little Powell of Hot Springs; one brother, Stuart Powell of Kansas City, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Shelby Powell and Brooke Powell.
The service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Hot Springs Funeral Home chapel with Brother George Railey officiating.
Pallbearers will be Joe Chunn, Delmar Buttrum, Lanny Ragsdale, Don Owens, Mark Johnson and Glen Owens.
Honorary pallbearers are Stan Johnson, Jason Glorida, Danny Willis, Jeff Scott, Vernon Mitchell and Doug Johnson.
Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.

Prince, James Ronald

James R. "Ronnie" Prince, 59, of Benton, died April 3, 2009, in Little Rock. He was born April 14, 1949, in Batesville, Arkansas, to the late J. R. and Dorothy (Rayburn) Prince. He was owner of J. R. Prince Service Center. Survivors include one son, Joel Prince and wife Sunny of Benton; one daughter, Katie Prince and fiancé, Chris Neel of Mena; one grandson, Jarrett Prince; four sisters, Joyce Morrison, Mary Koehler and husband, Jim, Annette Nutt and husband, John, all of Benton and Kathy Ballard and husband, Ronnie of Alabama; and one brother, Ken Prince and wife, Susan, of Benton, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home Chapel (315-4047) on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 p.m..
