He was a soldier in the Indian wars. According to tradition he bought six hundred acres of land from the Indians for forty shillings and a gallon of rum, about 1727-28, in Sutton, Massachusetts, lying on the Blackstone river. His wife was admitted to the Newbury church before 1728. He married (first), October 29, 1710, Hannah Barry; (second) November 3, 1772, Hannah Tenny, of Upton.
