Mercy, dau. of Moses Leonard, of Marlboro; settled at Hardwick as early as 1736; was selectman, assessor, town clerk, deacon, and a captain in the French war; a pioneer in the settlement of Bennington, the first town chartered on the N. H. grants, which became Vermont. There he was justice of the peace, and active in resisting the encroachments of New York; and, in 1766, went to England as agent of the settlers to defend their rights before the royal court, but d. in London, 1767, Oct. 27, of small pox. Children 1733-59: Elizabeth, Leonard, Samuel, Moses, Paul, Silas, Mercy, Sarah, David, Jonathan, Anna.
