[ref 22] *conflicting date - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Colonel Thomas Wallingford, born in Dover, 28 July 1697, died at Portsmouth, N. H., 4 Aug. 1771, son of John and Mary (Tuttle) Wallingford. He married secondly, before 21 July 1730, Mary Pray, who died between 1751 and 1755, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Grant) Pray, of Berwick, Me. He married thirdly, about 1755, Mrs. Elizabeth (Swett) Prime, born in 1717, died in Berwick, 3 Dec. 1810, aged ninety-three years, widow of Dr. Mark Prime of York, Maine. Colonel Thomas Wallingford was one of the wealthiest men in the New Hampshire Province. He lived on the old road from Dover to Salmon Falls, near the site of the old Somersworth meeting-house. He was the Representative from Dover from 1739 to 1745, served as Moderator [ref 88:97] of the town meetings, and was a member of the board of selectmen for many years. He was Judge of the Superior Court of Judicature from 1748 until his death. "Sunday Aug. ye 4th 1771 Collo Thomas Wallingford of Somersworth, Dy'd at Capt. Stoodley's at Portsmouth, was carried up to Somersworth in the Evening & Buried on Tuesday Aug. ye 6th aged 74 Years ye 28th day of July last" (Tate). Col. Thomas Wallingford left no Will. There is a division of his estate, dated 8 Dec. 1779. A lot of land was given to Moses Dow of New Durham, and then the residue was divided into thirteen shares of which two shares were given to the eldest son, Thomas Wallingford, and the rest to Hannah Brown, Margaret Goodwin, Rachel Nowell, Mary Pearne, John Wentworth for his wife Elizabeth, heirs of Abigail Sanders, Olive Cushing, Lydia Costello, heirs of Samuel Wallingford, Ebenezer Wallingford, and the heirs of Mark Wallingford. What relationship Moses Dow bore to the rest is not shown, but it is possible that he represented the daughter Judith. (York co ME probate 12:1; Strafford co probate, 1:388) Margaret (Clements) Wallingford signs deeds with her husband, Thomas Wallingford, in 1719, 1721, and March 1726-7. On 21 July 1730, Thomas sells a piece of property and wife Mary releases her dower. Mary signs other deeds with Thomas, the latest being passed in March 1745-6, but she was Thomas's wife as late as 11 July 1751. On that date, her father, Joseph Pray of Berwick, made his Will and left a legacy to his daughter Mary Wallingford.
