Jael, and Abigail, and Cornelius; went home on business, and came back 1679, as is told, and d. 4 Dec. 1705*. His wid. d. the next week aft. He made complaint in England against our Col. to wh. the answ. in Remonstrance of Braintree is one of the most curious papers in our annals. It may be read in 4 Mass. Hist. Coll. V. 104. He was baptized February 10, 1624-25, died at Braintree, Massachusetts, August 27, 1695. He married, December 24, 1651, Dorothy Pray and lived in Braintree. She died December 11, 1705. Children: Dorothy, Richard, Nathaniel, Abigail, Joannah*, Sarah, Cornelius. [ref 29:63] *the only Joanna found married John Crossman and is daughter of Nathaniel - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1648 purchased his father's homestead in Braintree; added to it in 1661, 1663, 1667 and 1668; 1657 leased large tract of land at present Canton from Capt. Roger Clapp, and in 1692 sued Clapp's heirs but lost the case; 1685 again laid claim to large tracts of the Iron Works land; only succeeded in obtaining remaining estate of Increase Robinson of Taunton, the administrator of the estate of John Payne of Boston who had sold him by defective title a small piece of land belonging to the creditors of the Iron Works Co. in Braintree abt 1680 returned to England, made claims for land, Braintree inhabitants sent petition in rebuttal (Mass. Archives 3:34, 1:87) 1688 in litigation from a contract for buildings and a vessel at Braintree (Suffolk Court Rec. #1342 & #947) no settlement of his estate is recorded buried Hancock Cemetery, Quincy, gravestone: "Richard Thayer Sr. died Aug. 27, 1695 aged 71 years" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | ||||||||||
