| - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - RING, Seth, Newington (Portsm. tax abated 1715), m. ab. 1716 Elizabeth Libby. He was neph. of Keziah (Brackett) Maylem who thus named him in her will, and therefore a s. of Mary Brackett who m. 1st. Joseph Ring of Salisbury, 2d in 1710 Nathaniel Whittier of Salis. Among Seth's desc. a strong and early tradition persists that he was of Indian blood. If Mary was taken at Falmouth in 1690 or was with her Brackett grandparents at Sandy Beach in 1691 when they were k. and many unnamed members of their fam. taken prisoner, it is not imposs that she had a ch. by an Ind. fa. during her captivity. Joseph Ring was at Fort Loyal in 1690, and was prob. that captive J.R. tortured and burned at the stake in 1704 by Ind. in revenge for their losses in the attack on Berwick. S.R.'s will 5 Feb. 1750 - 30 May 1757 names, except David, his ch bap 1718-34: Benjamin, Eliphalet, Seth, Mary, Jane, Elizabeth, Josiah, George, David. [ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1728 Seth Ring to Josiah Moses, lot in that part of Portsmouth called Islington, on which a house stood.
