While out, she was captured by two Indians, who led her away, probably with the intent to sell her. When she had been gone a day or two, a young man, accompanied by an Indian slayer namer Wyer, started in pursuit. The young girl had the presence of mind to drop, as she went along, a hair comb, and fragments of her dress. These clues led to the place where they found her, bound in withes, with the two Indians asleep on each side of her. Having but one gun between them and an axe, the hunter took the axe telling the young man to use the gun. Creeping close to the Indian, Wyer cut off the head of one, while the young man shot the other. Fearing pursuit, the young man took the girl to a boat on a river nearby, while the hunter stayed back to face the foe should any appear. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | ||||||||||
