| - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jeremiah, fa. of Jeremiah, Esq., 1748-1824, postmaster of Portsm. under Washington, and friend of Jeremey Holknap. [ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JEREMIAH LIBBY, born in Portsmouth, N. H., 21 Feb. 1717; married first, MARY SYMMES, daughter of John and Hannah Symmes of Portsmouth. She died 11 July 1750, and he married second, Sarah, apparently daughter of Thomas Newmarch. It cannot be learned what occupation he followed, for in all legal documents he was described as a gentleman. His inventory mentions no real estate, except his house lot and garden. He was selectman in 1754. He and his first wife were members of the "Church of Christ." He died shortly before May 1757. His widow seems to have married as second husband, ___ Newmarch. Children by first wife 1746-48: John, Jeremiah; by second wife, bap 1753-54: Nathaniel, Benjamin. [ref 25:61] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | ||||||||||
