Richard, Eliot, ship-carpenter, had the greater part of his fa.'s land; son of George Rogers; �35 in 1678. O.F. 1669; town gr. 1671. His fa.'s land in the Long Reach laid out to him in 1698, on his pet. His 1st w. was prob. that Esther, w. of R.R. who was in ct. in 1675, included in a long list of Kittery offenders. He m. 2d wid. Sarah (Libby) Tidy, who m. 3d Christopher Banfield. Either he or Richard (son of Thomas) gr.j. 1688, 1693, 1694, 1697, 1698; j. 1696-7. His will 11 Jan 1700-1, inv. 28 Jan 1701-2, names w. Sarah, only s. John, s.-in-law (step-s.) John Tidy, and app. s.-in-law Thos. Hanscom overseer. Ch. by 1st w: Priscilla, Alice, Rebecca, John. [ref 22]

Since Richard Rogers lived on the homestead of George, he is supposed to have been his son. Richard took the oath of fidelity 9 July 1669. The name of his first wife is not known. He married (2) Sarah, widow of Robert Tidy and dau. of John Libby of Scarborough. His widow married Christopher Banfield. Children: Priscilla, Alice, Rebecca, John. [ref 33:705]

WILL of RICHARD ROGERS, 11 Jan 1700 - 25 Mar 1702:

I Richard Rogers of Kittery in the County of Yorke in the Province of the Masachusets Bay in New England being of Perfect Memory and understanding but under great Indisposition of Body and not Knowing how long it may please God to Continve me in this life. Doe hereby Constitute declare and ordain this to be my last Will & Testament Revoking all other Wills heretofore Made or declared either by word or writing.

Imprs I recomend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, trusting through the Merits of Jesus Christ to Obtain full and free remission of all my sins.

My Body I comit unto ye grave in order to a Decent and Christian Burial, the Managmt whereof I leave to the Direction of my Executrs and Overeears hereafter Named.

As touching what worldly Estate it hath Pleased ye lord to give me I give and bequeath as follows after my ffunerall Charges & Just Debts are paid.

Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Rebekah ten pounds in Cattle or other Merchantable pay, to be paid by my Executrs the one halfe at the day of her Marriage or one year after my Decease, & the othe halfe in some convenient time after, as my Executrs can do it with convenience.

Item I doe give and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Sarah two Cows and eight sheep and all the Goods or houshold stuff which shee brought with her, that is (one small Feather bed one rugg two Iron pots one Iron Kittle that is) if shee happen to Marry or to remove from from my son John Rogers, but if she see cause to continve and be assisting unto my sd Son then my will is yt My sd Son shall provide for and her allow her a Comfortable Maintenance out of the income of my Estate during her Natural life or so long as she shall see cause to continve with him my sd son.

Item I give and bequeath unto my son in law John Tydie two steers of about three years old if he continve with his mother, and my sd son John till he arrive at ye age of one and twenty years.

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved and onely son John Rogers all my whole Estate both of Lands Cattle houses houshold stufs &c: willing him to pay Such legacies &c: as before mentioned. And I doe by these presents make and appoint my sd Wife and son John to be my Executrs of this my last will and Testament, Requesting my Loving and much Esteemed friend. Ensign John Leighton, and my son in law Thomas Hunscomb to be my overseers of this my last Will whom I desire to be assistants to my Excutrs upon all occations.

SARAH LIBBY, born in Scarborough, in the year 1653; married ROBERT TIDY. He was the first, and perhaps the only person of his surname that settled in Maine or New Hampshire. He first appeared as one of the Black Point garrison in 1676. His family afterward lived at Kittery, where his widow married second, ___ Rogers, and third, Christopher Bampfield. She was living in Kittery, a widow, in January, 1729. Children: John, Elizabeth, Hannah, Mary. [ref 25:28]
