He was herb doctor, blacksmith, farmer, merchant. Prominent in affairs of North Berwick. Built a mill at Bauneg-beg which was burned by Indians, they not knowing the owner was a Friend. He or his son, Winthrop, replaced it with another still in use by his lineal descendant in 1936. From History of Kennebec County, page 654, Spent early married life in Kittery where was recorded birth of first child. Received deed from his father for land in North Berwick now owned in part by Leslie Morrell Sherburne. He practiced with herbs the healing art, and while operating as farmer, lumberman and trader, was also well known as Dr. Morrell, as the curious account book which he kept still shows. His will gave lands and mill property at Doughty's Falls (No. Berwick), and Bauneg-beg Lake to sons Abraham and Josiah. To Winthrop a farm, his "largest fowling piece" and "my silver watch", while John was to get the "smallest fowling piece and the great pasture" at 21. To his daughter Peace the household goods at death of his wife Sarah. At one time he owned 200 acres of land in North Berwick that was granted the Morrells for "services in the Indian Wars". The original deed, with the King's signature, was lost just a few years ago in a fire (1934).
