| - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - John, b. 1698, settled on his father's homestead in Scarb. His ho. was on the site of the Abraham Plummer ho. at the railroad bridge near Scarb. Beach Station. He d. 7 Oct. 1756 (gr.st.). He m. in Scarb. 1 Jan 1734 Keziah Hubbard, dau. of Lieut. John and Jane (Follansby) of Kingston, N.H. 6 ch. [ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JOHN LIBBY, born doubtless in Portsmouth, in the year 1698; married 1 Jan. 1734, in Scarborough, KEZIAH HUBBARD, daughter of John and Sarah (Collensby) Hubbard, of Kingston, N. H., a native of Salisbury, Mass. She was a sister of the wife of the Rev. William Tompson. He removed to Scarborough soon after the second settlement. His house was on the site of that recently occupied by Abraham Plummer, near the present Congregational church. He died of a severe cold, (caught while working with an adz in the hold of a vessel), 7 Oct. 1756. He took no part in public affairs, but was an enterprising man, and left a good property. His widow died 29 June 1788. They had a negro slave whose name was Sambo -- called Sambo Libby. It is still told how he used to cross the Nonesuch River. He would lower himself into the river on one side, and in two or three minutes, having crawled across on the bottom of the river, would appear climbing up the opposite bank.
