James, son of Daniel and Margaret (Spencer) Goodwin, married Sarah, dau. of Miles and Ann Thompson, 11 Dec. 1686. He was killed by Indians 31 July 1697. See Pike's Journal. His widow married, about 1703, William Hearl, Senior. Children: Adam, Sarah, Mary, Olive. [ref 33:454]

JAMES 4 GOODWIN (Margaret C3 Spencer, Patience 2 William 1), born Berwick circa 1658; died 31 July 1697 (Pike's Journal; KVR); married by John Wincoll, Esq., J.P. (NEHGR, 28:118;49:46) York 9 Dec 1686 (Frost & Anderson, Marriage Returns of York County, 1) SARAH THOMPSON, baptized April 1703, died Berwick before 1714 (KVR), daughter of Miles and Ann Thompson. Sarah married second Dec 1703 (Pike's Journal) William Hearl, whose first wife had been Patience Etherington. James and his half-brother Thomas were given land by their father 14 July 1683. James served on the jury 1696-97. He died of wounds inflicted when he was attacked by Indians while working in a field 29 July 1697. Children (daus: KVR, 8; sons: Goodwin Family Newsletter, [email protected]; all: J H Goodwin, Daniel Goodwin of Ancient Kittery�), surname GOODWIN: Adam, James (LND does not list James in this family), Sarah, Mary, Thomas, Richard, perhaps John (The birth, death, marriage and son Nathan attributed John Goodwin, son of William and Deliverance (Taylor) Goodwin, are listed in Daniel Goodwin of Ancient Kittery as belonging to John in this family).
