Robert, son of Richard Swan, was born in 1626 or 1628 in England. He married (first) Elizabeth Acie, of Rowley; she died in 1689. He married (second) April 1, 1690, Hannah Russ. He died February 11, 1698. Soon after his marriage he went to Andover, Massachusetts, and in 1650 to Haverhill, in that part afterwards set off and incorpated as the town of Methuen, where many of his descendants have lived. He took the oath of allegiance, November 28, 1677. He was a soldier in the great swamp fight, King Philip's war, Lieutenant Benjamin Swett's company. Children: Elizabeth, Sarah, Robert, Ann, Richard, Timothy, Dorothy, John, Samuel, Samuel, Joshua, Caleb. [ref 29:1520]

ROBERT, b. about 1626-7 England; aged about 54 years by his deposition on the 3 May 1680; aged 56 years by his deposition on the 8 May 1682; d. 11 Feb. 1697-8 Haverhill, Mass., as Robert Swan aged 74 [?], husband of Hannah, by his gravestone in the Pentucket cemetery; m. 1st Elizabeth Acie before 1653 Haverhill; m. 2nd widow Hanah Ross 1 Apr. 1690 Haverhill. Robert Swan was in Rowley in 1652 (Ipswich Deed II: 228); Robert Swan & wife Elizabeth of Haverhill, sell to Anthony Crosby of Rowley, land which formerly belonged to his father Swan in said town. Robert Swan senr of Haverhill out of respect and relation to the desire and last will of my father Richard Swan of Rowley . . . late dec'd, and in consideration of the affection that I have unto my naturall son Richard Swan, do . . . make over . . . unto him my sayd son Richard Swan my full right title & reversion after the death of Ann Swan the Relict of my sayd father of all that housing and land wch by will my sayd ffather hath given unto me, and for the present left . . . in the possession of the sayd Ann my mother during her natural life . . . 12 June 1678. The depposison of Roberd Swan Senr Aged about fifty four now testifieth and saith that John Griffin by reason of his absence and not tending his boat hath cased me to waight at the ferry longer then I do waight at any other ferry and that hath bine his coustom to me maney time in thes three or four year last past. Hannah b. about 1649; "Hannah Rose wife of ye deceased Fennill Rose" was aged 35 by her own deposition in Mar. 1684; she d. after 1718, and probably before 1720. Hanah Bull m. 1st ffunell Ross 16 Mar. 1664 Ipswich, Mass., the court record has a line partly drawn through it. Hannah Rose wife of ye Deceased Fennill Rose, made oath in Court, as aged 35, together with Hannah her daughter aged about 19. In a suit of Orway against Potter in Mar. 1684 (Essex Ct. File XLI: 38).
