He was a wheelwright by trade, and was deacon of the First Church there from 1723 until his death. It is said that after he was seventy years of age he hewed a beam for a meeting house without chalk or line so complete that his friends would have his name and age put on the beam that it might be read by the people. He married, January 30, 1693, Bridget Harris, born in Rowley, November 26, 1672, died October 14, 1757, daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Hazen) Harris.
