DOWNES, Sergt. Thomas, son of Thomas and Catherine; liv. with his father and had his lands, disting. from him as 'Sergt.' Constable. In the spring of 1711 Sergt. Downes and 3 others working in a field were k. by Ind. Adm. Apr. 13 to s. Gershom. Thrice m., 1st one Martha, 2d Mary Lord, k. by Ind. 26 Jul 1696, 3d 24 Oct. 1698 Abigail (Roberts) Hall. Ch: Gershom, rec. his own birth, 's. of Tho. Jr. and Martha,' 10 Jan 1680-1. Will 4 Apr. - 27 June 1750. He m. 1st 24 Dec. 1707 Sarah Hall, 2d Elizabeth (Tibbets) wid. of Pomfret Dam, who m. 3d Richard Goodwin. 7+2 ch, incl. Gershom, K. by Ind. at Rochester 27 June 1746. By 2d w., Lord heirs: Thomas, lumberman, Highway surv. 1715. Adm. 29 Nov. 1749 to 3 sons-in-law, all of Somersw. W. Sarah Ham had d. 9 daus. 1711-172_. Ebenezer, apprent. ab. 1701 to Richard Pinkham; adult in 1715, housewright. His captivity in Dummer's War is much in print. Capt.; he had 5 ch. at Piscataqua. In 1746 he deeded half his homestead to his s. Ebenezer. Ab. 1760 Ephraim and Ebenezer Downes were liv. in Arundel, and went east. Wife Elizabeth 1737-55. Martha m. James Bunker, 2d by Dec. 1725 John Mackelroy, she bap. on a sick bed 17 Apr. 1744, both liv. 1750. Samuel, Somersw. Will 24 Mar. - 30 May 1735 names w. Judith (his wid. in 1779) and sis. Thomas 2 Downes, born March 17, 1753, in Boston, Mass.; killed by Indians in 1711; married -- Lord. The following items are said to be from the Maine Genealogical Register, Volume 3. 1703-4. Martha Lord, Nathan Lord, Sr., Benjamin Lord, John Cooper, all of Kittery; Moses Littlefield of Wells; Thomas Downes, William Frost, Tobias Hanson, of Dover; convey to William Lord of Kittery, land which was our brother Samuel Lord's, son of the aforesaid Martha, February 1, 1703-4. We the undersigned, sons and sons-in-law of Nathan Lord, late of Kittery, deceased, convey to our mother, Martha Lord, etc., (Signed) John Cooper, Abraham Lord, William Frost, Thomas Downes, Tobias Hanson, Moses Littlefield. Mary (Lord) Downes was a daughter of Nathan1 Lord and was killed by Indians when returning from the church service at Dover, on Sunday, July 26, 1696, and her husband was also killed by Indians at Dover in the spring of 1711. [ref 31:118]
