Richard, Esq., merchant, Portsm., son of Christopher and Jane (Cummings) Jose; liv. and d. on his fa.'s place. His inherit. incl. all the Shoals property. Selectm. In 1679 he was adjudged to fa. of Joan Knight's dau.; m. 16 Oct. 1683 Hannah Martyn (Hon. Richard). He d. 23 Sept. 1707 ag. 48 (gr.s. at Pt. of Graves); adm. to wid. 3 Feb. 1707-8. She m. 2d 2 Oct. 1718 Edward Ayres, d. 12 Jan. 1718-9, ag. 54 (one stone with 1st husb.). Adm. again on his est. 19 Mar. 1721-2 to Edw. Cate; div. by agreement 18 Mar. 1722-3. Richard Jose, son of Christopher Jose, was born at Isle of Shoals, Maine, November 10, 1660. He went to Portsmouth, and was sheriff of New Hampshire from August 16, 1689, until he died, September 24, 1707. He married (first) October 16, 1683, Hannah, daughter of Richard Martin, (second) Esther, daughter of Major Richard Waldron, and widow of Abraham Lee and Henry Elkins. Children by first wife: Joanna, Jane, Mary, Richard, Martin, Sarah. [ref 29:2028]
