Nicholas b. 1667, son of William Gowen and Elizabeth Frost; married Abigail, dau. of Benoni Hodsdon of Berwick. He served in his younger days as an Indian scout. He was admitted to practice as an attorney at a court held in York 6 April 1703. Was representative to General Court in 1709. He died about 1742*. His wife survived him. Children 1695-1715: Abigail, Elizabeth, Margaret, Hester, Nicholas, William, Patrick, Anna, James. [ref 33:468]

ABIGAIL Hodsdon3, b. in Kittery, Me., 1664; m. in 1694, Nicholas, son of William and Elizabeth (Frost) Gowen (sometimes called Smith, because the word Gowan means a smith, or work in Scotland). Nicholas served in his younger days as an Indian scout, but later studied law and was admitted to practice as an attorney at a court held in York, Apr. 6, 1703. Was representative to General Court in 1709, and d. about 1742. Children: Abigail, Elizabeth, Margaret, Hester, Nicholas, William, Patrick, Anna, James. [ref 32:28]
