(Plymouth 356; deeds 9:10; 11:164) [ref 30:86] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The 24th of May 1661 Memorandum That Edward Gray of the towne of Plymouth in the Jurisdiction of New Plymouth in New England in America plantor Doth acknowlidge that for and in Consideration of the sume of six pounds and five shillings to him alreddy payed by ffrancis Comb of the Towne aforsaid in the Jurisdiction aforsaid; he hath freely and absolutely bargained allianated and sold and by these presents Doth bargaine allianate sell enfeofe and Confeirme unto the said ffrancis Combe a pcell of ffresh meddow Containing 4 acrees or therabouts bee it more or lesse lying and being neare Joanses River by a little brooke which Runeth into Joanses River aforsaid from a pond Called the beaver pond lying next to a pcell of meddow belonging to Steven Bryant there being bonded by a great Rid oake att the one end betwixt them; and soe Runing up the aforsaid brooke; and alsoe by a great spruce tree tetwixt Edward Gray and him; The said pcell of meddow with all and sungulare the appurtenances belonging therunto; unto the said ffrancis Combe to him and his heires for ever; To have and to hold the said pcell of meddow being four acrees bee it more or lesse with all and singulare the appurtenances belonging therunto; unto the onely proper use and behoof of him the said ffrancis Combe hee his heires and assignes for ever; and Mary the wife of the said Edward Gray Did Surrender up her Right in the said meddow unto the said ffrancis Combe before Mr Thomas Southworth Assistant [ref 93:16-80] 31 Dec. 1668 Francis Coombs of Plymouth sells house and land to Edward Gray and all his right in land granted by town of Plymouth on 30 Dec. 1641 "to my father Mr. John Coombs" (Plym. Colony record 3:234). | - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mary, dau of John Barker and Anna Williams; b. c1647, Marshfield, d. aft. 15 May 1711 (div. of 2nd hus. est.). She m. 2nd, c 1678, Francis Coombs3 (Sarah Priest2); m. 3rd, 5 Mar. 1684/5, Middleboro, David Wood. [ref 30] abt 1690, Widow Mary wrote a letter asking that her son Samuel Pratt not be "pressed a souldier" because "my first husband, was slain by the heathen in Captain Pierce's fight ... and I shall take it very unkindly, Iff he that is the only son of his father that was slain in the former warr should be compelled to go out againe." [ref 30] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "These lines may give information that Samuel Pratt's Father, my first husband, was slain by the heathen in Captain Pierce's fight. He was pressed a Souldier when I sojourned att Sittuate, having then noe place of my own, and have brought him up with other small children, and I shall take it very unkindly, Iff he that is the only one son of his father that was slain in the former warr should be compelled to go out againe, itt being contrary as I am informed to the law of England and this country, therefore I desire itt may not be.
