SAMUEL, Plymouth 1643, was one of the orig. purch. of Dartmouth in 1652, and most prob. had fam. beyond my knowl. [ref 20]

SAMUEL, b. Leiden about 1622; placed himself as an apprentice to Richard Higgins, tailor, for seven years, 1 April 1634 [ PCR 1:29]; remainder of apprenticeship, until 1 April 1641, transferred to John Smalley, 31 August 1639; apparently m. by about 1657 _____ _____. (The only evidence that Samuel Godbertson, son of Godbert Godbertson, married is the death at Middleborough on 17 April 1699 of "Samuell Cutbird aged about 42 years", who was born at the right time to be son of Samuel Godbertson.) CUTHBERTSON, SAMUEL -- The son of Cuthbert and Sarah Cuthbertson, he later shortened his name to Samuel Cuthbert. He arrived on the 1623 Anne. Following the death of his parents, he put himself out as an apprentice on 1 April 1634 for a term of seven years to Richard Higgins of Plymouth. Richard Higgins on 31 August 1639 transferred his apprenticeship to John Smalley for Samuel to learn tailoring. He was granted lands at Marshfield, and later moved to Dartmouth. A deed shows him resident at Acushnet (Sartmouth) and the heir of Godber Godberson, deceased. He had one known son, Samuel. [ref 90:277]

The 17 of ye 7 month 1646. Phineas prate came before ye Gover and acknowledged the sale of his house & land, with all ye appurtenances thertoo belonging; to John Cooke, according to a deed then exhibited which they desired might be recorded. Also his wife came before ye Gour and gaue her consente to e same sale. Allso Samuell Cudberte did ye same day & year aboue writen, freely relinquish all ye claime, title, or Intrest, that he ever had, or might pretend to have, to any parte, or parcell of ye lands afforsaid As also from those for which they were exchanged with mr prence. And did freely give, grante, and make ouer all ye right, and Intreste that he euer had, or hereafter, should haue, or at any time might pretend to haue, to any parte or parcell of ye lands aforesaid, and those mentioned in ye deede Insuing to Phineas Prate, & his heires, & assignes for euer; for his, & their onely proper vse & behoofe.

THE PURCHASERS of DARTMOUTH
A writing appointed to be Recorded as followeth Att a generall meeting of the Purchasers att Plymouth the seaventh of march 1652 It was ordered and fully agreed unto and Concluded by the whole that all that Tract and tracts of lands lying from the Purchassers bounds on the west side of acoughcusse to a river called Accusshaneck and three miles to the Eastwards of the same; with all Ilands meddows woods waters rivers Creekes and all appurtenances therunto belonging Should bee given to those whose names are heerunder written Containing thirty four shares and was then given alloted Assigned and sett over to them by the whole to have and to hold to them and their heires and Assignes for ever; to Devide and Dispose of the same as they should see good; and they are to Satisfy the Indians for the Purchase therof and to beare all other Due Charges that shall any way arise about the same According to their severall proportions William Bradford, Captaine Standish, Mr Collyare and Sarah Brewster, mr Aldin, mistris Warren, Robert Bartlett, John ffaunce, Manasses Kemton, George Morton, John Dunham, William Palmer, Thomas Morton, Edward holman, mistris Jeney, Joshua Pratt, Tho: Southworth, James hurst, Edward Doty, John Shaw, ffrancis Cooke, John Cooke, Samuell Cutbert, John Crackston, Stephen Tracye, ffrancis Sprague, henery Sampson, Peter Browne, Constant Southworth, George Soule, Phillip Delanoy, Moses Simons, Edward Bumpas, ffrancis Eaton (Plym. deeds II-I-106,107). Memorand : the 2cond of December 1656 That Samuell Cutbert of the towne of Plymouth in the Jurisdiction of New Plymouth in New England in America Planter Doth acknowlidg that for and in Consideration of the sume of fifty shillings whereof the one halfe is alreddy paied and the Remainder halfe to bee paied by the 25t of June Next ensueing the Date heerof by Francis Combe of the Towne aforsaid in the Jurisdiction aforsaid; hee hath freely and absolutely bargained and sould allianated Relingquished and made over unto the said Francis Combe all his Right title and enterest hee hath unto halfe a lott of land estimated about ten acres bee itt more or less being Included in that tract of land which was sometimes possessed by John Combe gent : lying and being in Rocky nooke in the towneshipp of Plymouth aforsaid; To have and to hold the said halfe lott of land with all and singulare the appurtenances and privilidges belonging therunto; unto the said Francis Combe his heires and assignes for ever; Morover the said Samuell Cutbert Doth by these prsents Relinkquish and make over unto the said Francis Combe all his Right and Interest hee hath or ever had or might prtend to have unto the aforsaid Tract of land att Rocky nooke aforsaid or any pte or pcell therof of any appurtenances therunto belonging; The said prmises viz the halfe lott of land above specifyed with all and singular the appurtenances belonging therunto together with all the said Samuell Cutbert his Richt and Interest hee hath or ever had formerly or laterly of and into the above said Tract of land somtime possessed by John Combe gent: att Rocky nooke in the Jurisdiction of Plymouth aforsaid or into any pte or pcell therof or unto the appurtenances or privilidges belonging therunto; The said Samuell Cutbert Doth heerby freely and fully Relinkquish and make over unto the said Francis Combe his heires and assignes for ever; The said prmises with all and singulare the appurtenances belonging therunto or unto any pte or pcell therof to appertaine unto the onely proper use and behoof of him the said Francis Combe his heires and assignes for ever; This above said was acknowlidged before Willam Bradford Govr: the Day and yeare first above written [ref 93:10-216]
