William, Berwick, eldest son, presum. mar., but left no w. or ch. Kit. gr. 1651. Tr.j. often from 1662, gr.j. from 1664; cor.j. (foreman) 1668; surv. highway 1673 (charged with neglect; did not appear and fined for contempt); selectman 1674-5, 1677; comr. for Kit. 1677. Deliverance Taylor was a maid in his ho. �1685. With fa. adm. of the Etherington est. in 1665; adm. of Saml. Sayward's est. 1690. Mrs. Hannah Hobbs named 'Wm. Spencer and Walter Allen; among those having charge of Great Works mills. He d. 15 May 1696. Will, 18 June 1687, named neph. Humphrey sole heir; a cod., 11 Mar. 1695-6, provid. that his serv. Moses Spencer serve his time out with Humphrey and then receive a meadow and 50 a. [ref 22]

WILLIAM b ca 1630/1; d 15 May 1696. His will mentions no wife or children. He may be the child referred to by Torrey as b 1630. William was granted land in Berwick in 1651 and served the town in various capacities. He and Walter Allen were in charge of Great Works Mills sometime after 1650 (LND, 652). As eldest son he inherited a considerable estate (MPA 1/34), which he left to his nephew Humphrey Spencer as his sole heir on 18 June 1687 (MW 110-1). A codicil to his will provided for servant Moses Spencer. [ref 74:8]

WILL OF WILLIAM SPENCER 11 Mar 1696 - inventory 15 May 1696:

In the name of God Amen. The last Will and Testament of William Spencer being in pfect memory and of a disposing mind and being willing and desirous to Settle and dispose of what God hath giuen me and to preuent trouble not knowing how Soon God may please to take me out of this troublesom world I doe hereby Declare this to be my last Will and Testament as followeth

Imprs I doe bequeath my Soule into the hands of Jesus Christ my blessed Sauiour and redeemer And my body to the earth to be Decently buried/ And after my ffunerall Charges be Defrayd and my honest Debts payd I doe Dispose of the rest of my Estate as followeth

2ly I doe giue and bequeath all my Lands Meadows houses and Cattle and all my whole Estate both with dores and with dores unto my Louing Nephew Humphrey Spencerto be my whole & Sole Executr to se this my Will fulfilled in Confirmation here of I the said Willam Spencer haue hereunto Set my hand and Affixed my seale this Eighteenth day of June one thousand Six hundred Eighty and Seuen and in the third year of the Reign of our Soueraign Lord James ye Second by the grace of God of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland King Defendr of the ffaith &c
