JOY, Ephraim, carpenter, Kittery, b. in Boston 7 Dec 1646, s. of Thos. and Joan (Gallop) of Boston and Hingham. His fa. was dealing with Hugh Gunnison bef. the latter mov. in Kit. The son was in Kit. in Apr. 1670, worked in Portsm. 1671, ag. �23, was fighting in Kit. with Danl. Goodwin and Nich. Frost in July 1672. M. Susanna (Spencer), wid. of John Gattensby bef. 1 July 1673, when she was abs. from meeting, and ret. to Hingham for a time, miller there 1675-6. She was liv. 13 June 1684, he 2 Nov. 1696. Kn. ch: Ephraim, b. �1675, carpenter, Kit. In 1693, �18, he and his fa. �42, went from Boston to Piscat. with Mr. Jos Chownes. M. 22 Feb, 1703 Sarah Nock, a wid. in Aug. 1715. 6 or m. ch., incl. Sarah, Mary, Ephraim, Susanna, Thomas, Samuel, and perh. Benjamin of Biddeford 1742. Sarah Joy, wid., was in Ct. Apr. 1717, bastardy' her s.
