While he did not, like his cousin Nathaniel, rem. to the Kennebec, he engaged in that specul. and in 1762 stood suit by the Prop. of the Kennebec Purchase. D. 9 Feb. 1780. W. [ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NATHANIEL 4 DONNELL, Esquire (Alice 3 Humphrey 2 William 1) born York 18 Nov 1689, died York 9 Feb 1780 (YVR, 373), age 90; married circa 1712 HANNAH PREBLE, born circa 1690, died York 22 Oct 1767, age 75, daughter of John and Hannah Preble. In 1719 Nathaniel and Hannah quitclaimed her rights to the estate of her grandfather Abraham Preble. Nathaniel was a yeoman, mariner and merchant. He acquired extensive land holdings at York and was a Lieutenant colonel during the campaign against Louisbourg NS in 1745, and in 1757 was a colonel of the York County militia regiment. Nathaniel was active in business interests in Nova Scotia as well. He lived in a house made into a garrison on York St (US Rt 1-A), across from the entrance to the Marshall House. Many of the family are buried in the cemetery across the street from the York library. Nathaniel's will was made 18 Aug 1778, and gave his slave Dinah to his son Samuel (YP #4507). Children, born York ME (YVR, 33, except Nathaniel who was named in his father's will), surname DONNELL: Alice Samuel, Hannah, Joseph, Nathaniel.
