[ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JOHN Hodgdon3, b. in Portsmouth, N. H., or Newington, N. H., m. Mary Hoyt. (We find on the vital records in Boston, Mass., the marriage of John Hodgdon and Susanna Clapp of Dorchester, Mass., May 5, 1702; this seems to have been a mistake in the name of the bridegroom, as we find Susanna the wife of Nathaniel Hodgdon in 1703, also her birth in Dorchester, and death and age from "Copp's Hill Epitaphs." John and Mary lived in Newington, where he signed a petition in 1713 for the settling of a minister in Newington. We find them selling land in 1729-35, to John Knight, John then a blacksmith.
