Capt. John, Dover, son of John and Mary (Nutter) Wingate; inherited the homestead and liv. there with w. Ann Hodsdon. Evid. belligerent and had fights at times with Edward and Jonathan Evans, Henry Hobbs and Ephraim Wentworth. As Capt. commanded a company in a Port Royal expedition. Will, 28 Dec. 1714 - 16 Feb. 1714-5, names w. Ann, 11 ch., giving homestead and other prop., incl. his part of a new mill, to wife and s. John to bring up the small ch.; if John refuse, to have nothing until the ch. had been brot up. She m. 2d Capt. John Heard.
