| - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ISRAEL Hodgdon, Jr., b. in Dover, N. H., Mar. 25, 1697; m. in Dover, Aug. 9, 1725, Hannah, dau. of John and Elizabeth (Meader) Hanson, b. in Dover, Jan. 11, 1705; they lived in Dover, where she d. Jan. 1, 1737-8. He m. (2) in Dover, Sept. 21, 1738, Mary, dau. of Edmund and Abigail (Green) Johnson of Hampton, N. H., b. Nov. 3, 1707. Mr. Hodgdon was taxed in Dover in 1741, at which time he was called an Ensign. In the several deeds given by him, he is called a housewright, as well as a yeoman. He probably followed both vocations. May 15, 1722, Israel sold William Twombly a tract of eight acres of land, situated at Barbadoes (Dover); being part of a grant of sixty acres of land at Salmon Falls, which were granted to Israel Hodgdon, sen. Sept. 9, 1741, Israel Hodgdon, jun., sold David Drew twenty acres of land on the westerly side of Bellamy's Bank, above Merritt's Mill. Apr. 28, 1741, Israel Hodgdon, jun., sold Benjamin Allen 76 acres of land at Rochester, being lot No. 119. Feb. 17, 1753, Israel, with his children, Timothy Caleb, Elijah Estes and Sarah his wife, sold their interest in an estate at Nock's Marsh, wbich belonged to John Hanson, deceased. Apr. 28, 1755, Israel of Dover (at this time the word junior was left off from his name), for �374, old tenor, sold Joseph Wentworth of Somersworth 25 acres of land, laid out above Great Falls, bounded by the river. Jul. 2, 1765, Israel sold his son Peter Hodgdon, certain land at Nottingham, containing 93 acres, adjoining town of Barrington. 1 Jan 1768 "Israel Hodgdon of Dover, yeoman, for �500, sells Stephen Evans, my homestead farm, lying at a place called Nock's Marsh in Dover, where I now dwell, containing 120 acres; Beginning at ye Southeasterly corner of Benjamin Evans' land, adjoining on and to ye westerly side of ye road leading from Littleworth, so called, to Bellaman Bank River and running to the River, with all buildings &c" (NH records 89:479). 9 Feb 1768 "Benjamin Page of Weare, for �525, sells Israel Hodgdon of Dover, a certain tract of land in Kensington, being the place on which I lately dwelt, containing 100 acres, bounded Northerly by a road leading from Drinkwater Road over the Red Oak Ridge, Westerly by land of David Green, in part, land of Elisha Prescott, in part, and land belonging to the heirs of Ebenezer Prescott, deceased, in part, Southerly by Stumphill Road, Easterly by land of Elisha Chase, in part, and by land of James Fogg, in part, together with the buildings thereon. Also five acres of fresh meadow at Greasy Swamp" (NH deeds 89:502). Sept. 24, 1777, he sold the homestead to his son Caleb for �500, giving a deed of the farm purchased of Benjamin Page, with this addition: "Also another piece of land I purchased of Elisha Prescott, Sept. 2, 1772, containing 21 1-2 acres, excepting ten acres which I sold my son Peter Hodgdon." Will dated, May 18, 1779, "Gives daughter Sarah Estes, 5s; gives sons: Timothy, Caleb, Edmund, Israel, Peter, John and Moses, each 5s; to daughter Abigail 5s; gives wife Mary, all my buildings where I now live, with all movable estate." Probated, Apr. 25, 1780. Children: Sarah, Timothy, Caleb, Edmund, Israel, Peter, John, Abigail, Moses. [ref 32:43] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Israel Hodsdon b. 25 March 1698; married, (1) 9 Aug. 1725, Hannah, dau. of John and Elizabeth (Meader) Hanson, born 11 Nov. 1705, and died 1 June 1737. Children 1725-33: Sarah, Timothy, Caleb. He married (2) 21 Sept. 1738, Mary, dau. of Edmund and Abigail (Green) Johnson of Hampton, N. H., born 3 Nov. 1707.
