| - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jacob4 Hurd (Jacob3,2, John1) was born 12 February 1702/3. "Jacob Hurd, Capt., goldsmith, formerly of Boston and late of Roxbury being in Town at a Relation's House was seiz'd with an apoplexy, in which he continued speechless till Friday Evening when de departed this Life Feb. 17, 1758" (Boston News-Letter, 23 February 1758). On 20 May 1725, he married Elizabeth Mason. Jacob Hurd was a well-known gold- and silversmith with 296 indexed pieces. He was chosen tithingman in 1727; and in 1731 and 1736 was elected constable but declined to serve and paid his fine instead. On 5 April 1743, he was elected a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, then called the Military Company of Massachusetts; in 1745 he became first sergeant and later he was made captain in the Boston regiment. His estate was administered by his son John, and the inventory included a house and land at "Germantown," valued at �50 (Suffolk co Probate 53:581).
