Edward, Exeter, son of Edward Hilton [and one of his first wives]; 48 in 1678, had the homestead. Tav. lic. 1689, victualer 1692. He m. Ann Dudley. Will, prov. 10 July 1699, prov. for w. Ann, gave S.W. half of lands to s. Winthrop and a quarter each to s. Dudley and s. Joseph, �15 each to daus. Jane Mattoon, Ann, Mary and Sobriety Hilton. Ch: Jane, Winthrop, Mary, Dudley, Joseph, Sobriety, and Judith, Bridget, by trad. both d.y. [ref 22]

EDWARD, Exeter, eldest s. Edward [and unknown first wife], m. Ann, d. of Samuel Dudley, gr.d. of the Govs. Winthrop and Dudley, had Winthrop, a very promin. officer in the milit. k. by the Ind. 23 June 1710; just after being chos. into the Council, and bef. tak. his seat; Dudley, carr. away by the Ind. prob. when his br. Winthrop was k. for he was never heard of after; Joseph; Jane; Ann; Mary, and Sobriety, as Farmer gives them, but he leaves us to guess, that the last was a d. He d. 1699. Descend. of Col. Winthrop H. still enjoy the ancestr. fields, in one of wh. they show the gr.stone on the spot he fell in, whose inscript. is yet legib. [ref 20]
