LIGHT, John, Newcastle 1669, called woolen-draper of Isles of Shoals in deed of ho. and 13 a. in Haverhill from Stephen Webster in 1673, was asso. in business with Maj. Wm. Vaughn. M. 11 Sept. 1674 Dorothy, d. of Maj. Robert Pike and wid. of Joshua Pierce of New Jersey, and made agreement with Capt. John Pike as to management of her prop. 18 Mar. 1678. Liv. in Portsm. from 1678; his wid. still there in 1695, when she conv. land, but of Newbury 1698-1714. Will, when bound on a voyage, 24 Feb. 1685-6 - 18 Mar 1690-1, ment. w., unborn ch., step-ch. Joshua and Sarah Pierce, bro. John Pike of Dover and ch: Joseph, Mary, Robert, John, Dorothy. [ref 22]

JOHN LIGHT, of Salisbury, m. Sep. 11, 1674[Hv Nk S], DOROTHY3 PIKE (Robert,2 John1) [wid. of JOSHUA PIERCE]; rem. to New Hampshire in 1676. They had house and land in Haverhill. He was dead in 1690; but. wid. Dorothy was of Newbury, formerly of Portsmouth, in 1698, and she was living in 1714. Children: Joseph, Mary, Robert, John, Dorothy. [ref 36:231] Will at Exeter, made in N. H., Feb. 24, 1685-6, when he was bound on a voyage to sea. In it he ment. his three chil., also chil. that his wife had by Joshua Peirce, and the est. which belonged to the said Joshua, whether at New Jersey or at Amesbury. Inv. est. March 18, 1690-1. WILL of JOHN LIGHT, 24 Feb 1685/6 - 18 Mar 1690/1:

I John Light being bound on a voyage to sea; . . . All my worldly Estate; whether Personall or Reall of what kind soever; I bequeath unto my three children Namely: John Light; Mary Light; & Dorothy Light; to be Equaly divided between them unles my now wife; should be now with child; & if soe; then that to have an equal proportion; with the three others; and if any of them dye before they come to age: yn to fall to the survivers or surviver all which estat; I leave in ye hands of my beloved wife; Dorothy Loght; to be improved for her own maintenance; and the bringing up of the Children,; dureing ye widowhood of my said wife; but if she marry againe; the said Estate to be secured for the use of my Children; & I further will; that my son John if yt he liveth to ye age of fourteen or fiveteen years that he be bound out an apprentise to some honest calling such as he may most like and of aboility to undertake.

As for that estate which belonged to Joshua Pierce deceased whether at New Jersy or at Amsbury I leave it to ye Children yt my wife had by ye sd Joshua Pierce Provided they allowe for their maintenance what is just and equal; which I cannot Judge less than Ten pounds apeice yearly; If that be not thought so faire; then I will; yt both their estate and mine be equally divided between them and my Children, so yt each may have alike; accounting it very Irregular yt their estate should be reserved intire to them; and yt with my children else might have had; to be expended in maintaining them namely Joshua & Sarah Pierce

further I make my beloved wife sole executrix: & desire and apoynt my Brother mr John Pike of Dover & Samuel Keies of Portsmo to be my overseers of this my last will and Testament: in Testimony of all; & Singular ye pmises I set to my hand and seale; this twenty fourth day of february one thousand six hundred eighty and five.
