| - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Joseph, ag. 21 19 July 1723, with 25 others, was hanged as a pirate in Newport. A Marblehead fishing vessel had been taken by pirates and some of her crew were among those hanged. Joseph protested that he was forced but some of the witnesses testified they saw him 'fire.' The narrative of his more fortunate cousin, Philip Ashton, printed many yrs later, tells how Joseph helped him from drowning. [ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | ||||||||||
