DANIEL4 CLEMENTS (Job3, Job2, Robert1), born in Dover, N. H., about 1700, died, probably in Somersworth, N. H., between 1773 and 1784. He married before 1761, Frances Wallingford, baptised at Newington, N. H., 1 Sept. 1728, died, probably in Berwick, Me., between 1809 and 1816, daughter of John and Charity Wallingford. Mrs. Frances Clements of Somersworth and Samuel Guptail of Berwick were published in Berwick, 1 May 1784. In the Will of Job3 Clements there is a specific bequest to his youngest son, Daniel, of one hundred acres of land in Cocheca woods, later the town of Somersworth, N. H. At this time, Daniel was only about sixteen and as it is unlikely that he married before 1743, as Frances Wallingford was only fifteen in that year, he may have continued to reside with his mother, the widow Abigail Clements, until her death. She probably died soon after 1734, as in 1738, when her three sons, James, John, and Daniel quit their rights in certain lands possessed by John Horn, which their father had sold to John Horn, she did not release her rights in the property. In 1761, after Daniel's marriage, his brother James conveyed to him forty-two acres of land in Somersworth with reservations in favor of James's children if Daniel should die without issue. This was probably the same farm of forty-two acres which Daniel sold to James in 1739 and perhaps was a part of Daniel's original bequest from his father. It became known as the "Fanny [ref 88:101] Farm," evidently from the long ownership of Frances or Fanny (Wallingford) Clements. Daniel Clements was twenty-eight years older than his wife, Frances. That they were married before the 27 Oct. 1761 is shown by the item in John Wallingford's Will of that date, "I give to my daughter Frances Clements, one pound to be paid one year after my decease." She lived to be over eighty-one and when her life interest in Daniel's property ended, Abner7 Clements, a great-grandnephew of Daniel, bought up a portion of the farm. The deeds of this transfer of property are most valuable in determining the exact relationship of various branches of the family and in one instance are the only existing proof of the parentage of three children. Daniel Clements lived in Dover until 1744, when he moved to Somersworth where his brothers, James and Job, were both living. Daniel and Frances (Wallingford) Clements had no children. [ref 88:102]
