Esther Wines; child Benjamin. [ref 18:1-289] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nicholas, Kittery, first at Hingham 1635 and until aft. his 1st w. Esther Wines d. 29 Nov. 1647; Faintnot Wines's will 1633, giving to her 5 ch., called her cous. He m. 2d bef. 2 Oct. 1650 Elizabeth, wid. of John Needham who had d. in Va. Kittery 28 June 1655, abs. from meet.; liv. at Quampheg., later near Birch Pt. Brook. In 1659 he was ord. to Boston for entert. Quakers; was hims. often abs. from meet.; he and w. abs. in 1675. In Oct. 1678 he deeded to s. Benoni for supp. of self and w.; 9 Dec. made agreem. with him ab. carrying on the farm both were liv. on; alive 20 Feb. 1679. She was in Portsm. July 1686. Ch. by 1st w., bp. Hingham: Esther, Mehitable, Jeremiah, Elizabeth, Benoni. By 2d w: Joseph, Timothy, Sarah, Hannah*, John, Lucy. The name is in Col. Rec. spell. Hudson [ref 20] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This name has been written Hodgdon in recent times. Nicholas Hodsdon was in Hingham, Mass., in 1635. He married (1) Esther Wines, who died 29 Nov. 1647. He moved to Watertown, Mass., where he was living in 1650. Soon after he moved to Kittery, where he first appears on record in 1655. His second wife was Elizabeth. Some think she was dau. of John Wincoll. He lived a short time at Quamphegan and later near Birch Point Brook in South Berwick. A Nicholas Hodsdon was killed by Indians in Wells in 1704. Wife Elizabeth was living in 1686. Children: Esther, Mehitable, Jeremiah, Isreal, Elizabeth, Benoni; and by second marriage: Sarah, Timothy, John, Joseph, Lucy, Hannah*. All of which I heretofore purchased of John Wincoll, containing 40 acres. Also 56 acres of land long since Granted unto me by the town of Kittery; Bounded by the great River Pischataqua, or at least a branch thereof on the West, and with a fresh brook on ye North, which brooke devides between my lands and one Left. Playstead's land, late deceased. And on ye East with certain marked trees, and on the South with land of Miles Thompson. except about seven acres given John Morrell and his wife Sarah. Benoni to provide for Nicholas and his wife Elizabeth. Benoni to pay her �6 yearly during her natural life. Dated, Oct. 22, 1678.
