He m. 1st Jane (called Shackford), 2d 5 Nov. 1728 Ruth (Foster) Grow of Greenl., wid. of Saml. of Ipsw. Liv. 24 May 1753 when s. John called him n.c.m. from a shock; wid. d. 25 Aug. 1756, ag. 84. 8 or m. ch. incl. Alex., cordwainer, Newingt., Rochestor 1753; m. 9 July 1727 Mary (Shackford), wid. of Rich. Furber, and with her adm. the Furber est. [ref 22] [note: Noyes has this Alexander also as son of Benoni and Abigail (Curtis) Hodsdon] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ALEXANDER Hodgdon3, b. probably at Portsmouth, N.H., m. Jane Shackford of Dover, N.H., and we first find mention of them in 1713, when he was member of a committee to obtain the services of a minister to settle in Newington, N. H., where his wife, Jane, owned the covenant and was baptized Aug. 6, 1727. Alexander Hodgdon, of Newington, sold land in Newinton, to his son-in-law John Grow of Newington, Feb. 6, 1748-9, also Oct. 13, 1752, to same party. May 15, 1753, he sells to his son Alexander, Jr., of Rochester, N.H., for �1600 00. 0. all the land in Newington he then owned, being the home place.
