THOMAS, Watertown, s. of Thomas, perhaps of London, wh. was s. of Henry of Litchfield, came in the Defence from London, 1635, aged 20, by w. Sarah had Elizabeth b. 21 Sept. 1640; Sarah, 30 Sept. 1642; and Thomas, 26 Jan. 1645; d. 1653; his wid. Sarah m. 12 May 1655, John Chenery, and d. 14 Sept. 1704. Elizabeth m. Apr. 1658, John Fisher of Medfield; and Sarah m. Thomas Smith. His f. was a clothworker of London, as descr. in the deed of ho. and ground to his agent, Sept. 1639 from Gregory Stone. Often the name is giv. Boyson. [ref 20]

Thomas Boylston, founder of the family in this country, was born in England, and came at the age of twenty years in the ship "Defense" in July, 1635, from the parish of Fenchurch, London, England. He settled in Watertown, Massachusetts. He was a planter and clothworker. He married Sarah --. He died in 1653 and his widow married John Chinery. His descendants have taken a very prominent part in the upbuildings g of Boston and the family name has been perpetuated in various forms such as streets, squares and buildings gs. He left large tracts of land. Children: Elizabeth, Sarah, Thomas. [ref 29:1846]

THOMAS BOYLSTON, aged 20, from Fenchurch Street, London, embarked in 1635, and settled in Watertown. In addition to the lands purchased of Gregory Stone, in 1642, he held 73 acres, granted by the town. He d. 1653, and his estate was admin, by his wid, SARAH (the mother of his chil.), Oct. 4, 1653, and the estate was divided, 1668. His wid. m., in Wat., Mar. 12, 1654-5, John Chinery. She d Sept. 14, 1704. wid. of J. Chinery. [ref 77:90]
