Capt. Andrew Gardner, b. 5th Mar. 1642, in Roxbury. He was Representative in 1689, and a Captain in Sir William Phips' expedition against Canada, in 1690, in which he lost his life. m. 20th May, 1668, Sarah Mason, b. 25th Sept. 1651 in Watertown. They lived in Brookline, Mass. Issue: Andrew, Lucy, Abigail. [ref 18:3-588]

ANDREW, Roxbury, or rather Brookline, b. 5 Mar. 1642, s. of sec. Thomas of the same, m. 20 May 1668, Sarah, d. of Hugh Mason, had Andrew, and prob. others, certain. Thomas; liv. at Muddy riv. was capt. a rep. 1689, and lost in the exped. of Sir William Phips against Quebec next yr. [ref 20]

Andrew Gardner confessed Christ and was received to full Communion with good acceptan" July 11, 1678. He was active in town affairs, serving as constable, 1681, 1682; appointed Ensign of the South Company, November 19, 1685; representative, 1689. He served in the French and Indian War, bore title of Captain and went in Sir William Phipps' Expedition aginst Quebec, 1690, in which he was lost.

Capt. Gardner died intestate, and April 16, 1694, an inventory of his estate was taken by John Gore, John White and Thomas Gardner; later "Administration is granted April 5, 1695 to Sarah Gardner, widow of Andrew Gardner, yeoman, late of Muddy River, deceased, on her said husband's estate," and November 5, 1696 Sarah Gardner, widow and administratrix, presented an account of selling land.

"Division of house and lands of Andrew Gardner made September 26, 1702, by order of Court, by Lieut. Thomas Gardner, Joseph Buckminster, Solomon Phipps, Joseph Gardner and Samuel Aspinwall of Muddy River." In the Suffolk Registry of Probate it names his heirs as "We, Andrew Gardner of Muddy River, Gent., John Seaver of Muddy River, husbandman, John Wyllis of Medford, mason, Lucy Gardner of Muddy River, Spinster, John Mason of Newton, Tanner, on behald of Abigail and Thomas Gardner, Minors, children of Andrew Gardner, Yeoman, deceased. Fifth April 1696."

"Set forth and alloted unto his several children, namely Andrew Gardner, Sarah, wife of John Seaver, Ester, wife of John Wyllis, Lucy Gardner, Abigail Gardner, Thomas Gardner, September 7, 1702."
