[ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - DANIEL, Berwick, kept an inn there in 1662 [ref 20] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Daniel Goodwin of Kittery, who signed the submission of 1652, was probably the son of Daniel and Dorothy (Barker) Goodwin of Oxford, England. The will of Daniel of Oxford, proved 16 Feb. 1625, leaves his estate to his minor sons, Daniel and Stephen. Stephen settled in Charlestown, Mass. Daniel, Jr., married, (1) Margaret, dau. of Thomas and Patience (Chadbourne) Spencer; (2) after March 1670 Sarah, dau. of John Saunders and widow of Peter Turbet. He was one of the founders of the church at South Berwick in 1702. Was living in 1711 and died before 1713. Children: Daniel, James, Thomas, William, Moses, Patience, Elizabeth, Sarah, Adam, David. [ref 33:453] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The ancient records of Kittery are full of grants to the emigrant and his children. He was the son of Daniel And Dorothy (Barker) Goodwin. He married 1st, Margaret, dau. of Thomas Spencer of Kittery; by her he had several children. Daniel m. 2d, Mrs. Sarah, dau. of John Sanders and widow of Peter Turbet. [ref 43:9-322] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - GOODWIN, Daniel, planter, Kittery, signed the petition to Cromwell in 1657; constable; petitioned the Gen. Court of Mass. for aid in discharging the duties of his office in the face of local opposition to that government, Dec. 10, 1662. He gave to his sons Thomas and James 14 July, 1683, a tract "in the parish of Barwicke, town of Kittery," where he was residing. He deeded land to sons William and Moses 19 March, 1696-7, and to son Daniel 21 Aug. 1701; to son Thomas 13 Dec. 1711. He m. (1) Margaret, dau. of Thomas Spencer; he m. (2) Sarah, widow of Peter Turbat. [ref 44:82] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - DANIEL 1 GOODWIN, believed to be the Daniel Goodwin born Yoxford, Suffolk, England 1617 (IGI) or 1620 ([email protected]; CFAA), died by 16 Mar 1712/3 when his son Thomas took administration of his estate (MPA 2/100, #6985), son of Daniel and Dorothy (Barker) Goodwin. Daniel Goodwin was in Kittery by 1652, as he deposed in Aug 1701 that he had been a resident of the upper part of Kittery for fifty years. If he is the Daniel of Yoxford as suggested above, he could have been the Daniel Goodwin with brother Stephen who were headrights for land in VA for their uncle William Barker, captain of the ship America. In 1702 he appears on a list of the original members of the Berwick Church. While there was an earlier church by 1663, no records survive (Old Kittery Families, 195fl) and there was no official Congregational Church in Berwick before 1702 (Joseph Anderson, personal communication). Daniel Goodwin was a keeper of a public house in Kittery for many years. He was also town commissioner and sergeant, constable for 1662/3 and coroner in 1668. Daniel married second after July 1673 widow Sarah (Sanders) Turbet, daughter of Lt John Saunders of Wells and Cape Porpoise, and widow of Peter 1 Turbet. In 1711, Daniel and second wife Sarah gave a deed to his son Thomas for the homestead in return for maintenance during their natural lives (YD 7:220). [ref 74:18] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - One Sunday afternoon instead of going to the second sermon, Humphrey Spencer and some relatives and neighbors met and began drinking. A fight ensued in which Daniel Goodwin struck Humphrey over the head with a stool. Both men were fined at the County Court 25 Apr 1670 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | ||||||||
| Notes for Sarah SANDERS | ||||||||
| - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sarah, daughter of John and Ann Sanders; m. 1st Peter Turbet, m. 2d Daniel Goodwin [ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 29 Jun 1687 sold land in the Coxhall tract 1669 married(1) Peter TURBAT; children: John, Peter, Elizabeth and Nicholas After Turbets death, his widow was courted by Robert Elliott. This courtship was entered into with so much fervency that the marriage was considered certain. Eliot as the future husband of the widow was appointed administrator of Turbets estate. Court record: July 1672 "whereas former administration was granted Robert Eliot on Peter Turbets estate, deceased, in relation to his marrying the said Turbets widow, which he did not do, the said administration is null; and the court from the desire of the said Turbets widow grants administration to his son John." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | ||||||||
