Was Sergeant, 1663; Ensign, 1665; and Representative in the General Court of Massachusetts. Served in Queen Anne's War. m. 1673 Sarah Withers, dau. of Thomas Withers, b. 1606, d. 1685, Comissioner, 1644, and Deputy to General Court, 1656. [ref 18:3-490] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Lt. John Kittery, gr.s. of Alexander and neph. and heir of Nicholas who brot him over as a ch. aft. his fa. died. He depos. in June, 1678 �36 ab. Antipas Maverick's poss. of ho. and land near 30 yrs. past; in Jan. 1700-1, �56, that he liv. with Nicholas and in his ho. above 46 yrs. past. Sergeant for Kit. 4 July 1659; Ensign 18 July 1665; called Leiut. 1695. J. 1674, 1683, 1687, 1694; gr.j. 1674, 1675, 1693; j. life and death (Baker Nason) 1693; selectman 1676-77, 1683-84, 1692-99; highw. surv. 1692-99; town treas. 1694-98. Deputy 1696. Over-seer of Humphrey Chadbourne's will 1667, John Heard's 1676, John Ameredith's 1690. He was k. by Ind. and s. Nicholas taken prisoner in Apr. 1706 (Niles); Rev. Mr. Pike entered it under date 6 June 1706. He m. Sarah Withers aft. 25 Apr. 1671, when her fa. gave her half his farm at Oak Point, Spruce Creek, as a mar. portion, and by T.W.'s will in 1679 he rec. a . . . of land called Oak Point with the marsh next his ho. She was liv. in Nov. 1708, dead in Oct. 1723. In Dec. 1772 Edward Cutts, esq., called a meeting of the proprs. of Ossipee township on pet. of five heirs of Major N.S., Samuel, John, James, Dependence, Elisha. Ch., 1st two in gr.fa. Withers' will 1679: Alexander, Alice, Nicholas, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, John. [ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JOHN, Kittey, perhaps s. of Alexander, was serg. 1659; k. by the Ind. 29 Apr. 1706, as Penhallow tells, when his s. was tak. by them to Canada, and treat. very cruel. Niles relates the same matter with slight differ. of date. [ref 20] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - John Shapleigh, only child of the Alexander Shapleigh who died in 1642, was born about 1640. He was a prominent man in the early history of Kittery, was selectman, representative and ensign. Killed by Indians 29 April 1706. His wife was Sarah, dau. of Thomas Withers.
