M Jul 05 1691 658 [ref 16] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Moses2 Belcher (Gregory1), born about 1635, was a husbandman and resided in Braintree, inheriting his father's homestead. He is called "Corporal" Belcher on the records. He died July 5, 1591 and in his will, dated three days before, he mentions his wife; daughter Mary Bass; other daughters to have portions equal to that given to Mary; son Moses (then under age) to have the whole homestead; brother Alexander Marsh and cousin Joseph Belcher overseers; wife sole executor (Suffolk co probate). He married, May 23, 1666, Mary Nash, probably a daughter of James and Alice Nash of Weymouth, Mass., as Moses Belcher was a witness on a deed made by them, May 22, 1666, the day before his marriage (Suffolk co deeds 5:82). On Dec. 30, 1707, Mary Belcher, widow, and Anna Belcher, spinster, Moses Belcher, Joseph Bass, Ichabod Allen and Elizabeth his wife, Jabez Athern and Katherine his wife, and Joseph Brackett and Mehitable his wife, being all the children of Moses and Mary Belcher, conveyed land of said Moses deceased (Suffolk deeds 36:70). Children: Mary, Sarah, Mercy, Moses, Mehitable, Elizabeth, Catherine, Anna, Catherine. She is to return the house & land she now stands possessed of in good repair with all the stock she now hath at her day of marriage to my overseers for the use of my children. To son Moses my now dwelling house, barn, orchard yards, pasture, the whole homestead except the little orchard before named, also 4 acres of salt marsh & 10 acres of my woodland in the furnace land. All my daughters to be equal with what I have given my daughter Mary Bass, and the remainder of estate equally to all my children. Wife sole executor & friend Dea. Samuel Tompson, brother Alexander Marsh & my "cozen" Joseph Belcher overseers. Witnesses: Thomas Bass, Nathaniel Blanchard, Benjamin Savall. Presented 13 Aug 1691 by Mary Belcher, executor. Inventory: One dwelling house, barn & 11 acres adjoining �120; 8a. in Stoney field �40; 5a. in the plain before his house, & 1/16 part of ye swamp below it �35; 2a. upland in the farm field �6.
