1 Aug 1903 Wilhelm boarded the "S.S. Philadelphia" in Southampton, England, arriving New York City 10:00 a.m. 8 Aug 1903. According to information given on the ship's manifest, Wilhelm was age 34; male; married; was a German from Germany; lived last in London; (did not yet have ticket to) destination Fulton IL to meet uncle F. Löllke; he paid own ship's passage. He claimed to be in good physical and mental health, had $80 in cash, had never been to America before; was not an anarchist, not a polygamist, and answered "no" to two other unreadable catagories. With him was son Willie age 3.

Dec 1905 purchased lots three and four of Wellston Addition #2 "situate and being on Franklin Avenue, Wellston, in the City of St Louis, State of Missouri" for $1350

Application No. 124245 For License to Marry states Wilhelm Engle of 4965 Suburban Tracks, Kingshiway, MO and Miss Anna Groh of 3139a Oregon Ave MO. Marriage License No. 124245, book 64 page 419, states marriage was performed by Jno. B. Toomay, Minister of Congregational Church. [ref 3]

WILL OF WILHELM FREDERICK ENGEL, 2 Dec 1919:

I, Wilhelm Engel of Phoenix, Arizona, being over the age of twenty-one years, do hereby make this my last will and testament.

First, I give and bequeath to my son, Willie Engel the Shoe Repairing Shop located at the corner of First Avenue and Adams Street, together with all the contents thereof, including the goods, wares and merchandize, and also that piece or parcel of land more particulary described as the E1/2NE1/2 Sec. 13, Twp. 3 H., R. 3 E., G. & S. R. M.; also my residence and all contents thereof, same being located at 510 E. Taylor Street, Phoenix, Arizona.

Second, I give and bequeath to my son, Fritz Engel, that certain place or parcel of land more particularly described as the W1/2NE1/2 Sec. 13, Twp. 3 H., R. 3 E., G. & S. R. M.; also certain lots of which I am <can't read> and possessed, located in the City of St. Louis, Missouri.

Third, I give and bequeath to my son, Hans Engel, that certain piece or parcel of land more particularly described as the E1/2NW1/2 Sec. 13, Twp. 3 N., R & S., G. & S. R. M.; also that certain lot and house thereon, located in the 600 Block on Van Buren Street, Phoenix, Arizona.

Fourth, I give and bequeath to my son, Harry Engel, that certain piece or parcel of land more particularly described as the W1/2NW1/2 Sec. 13, Twp. 3 N., R. 4 E., G. & S. R. M.; also the land embraced in my unperfected Stock Raising Homestead Entry, which is more particularly described as Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, N1/2SE1/4, N1/2SW1/4 Sec. 35, Twp. 4 N., R. 4 E., G. & S. R. M.

Fifth, I give and bequeath to my son, Willie Engel, all the rest and residue of my estate, real and personal of which I shall die seized and possessed, situate in the United States of America, or elsewhere, to have and to hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns forever.

Sixth, it is my express wish and desire that my son, Willie Engel, shall have custody and control over my other children, and that he shall support them if possible, from the income derived from the above described Shoe Repairing Shop.

In witness whereof I hereto set my hand and publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, this 2nd day of December, A. D., 1919.
