Wilts, came in the James 1635, embark. at Southampton in Apr. arr. at Boston 3 June, freem. 2 June 1641, rem. next yr. to Haverhill, where he had s. Joseph, and d. 1683, aged 80. He brot. says Coffin, w. Christian from Eng. and his posterity is num. This name among the passeng. from Southampton in the James, by rec. at State Paper off. Somerby read Thomas James. It seems a wild error of his or mine; but if my read. be correct, his surname may be that of the ship. [ref 20] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - THOMAS1 DAVIS, of Haverhill, "mason," b. ab. 1603; m. Christian ___, who d. April 7, 1668[Hv]. Coffin calls him a "sawyer," from Marlboro, Eng.; but in a deed, 1664, he is called a "mason." He came to Newbury in 1641, but settled in Hv. in 1642; selectman in 1646 and '48. He d. July 27, 1683[Hv]. He may have been a bro. of James1 of Hv. At Salem is inv. est. Thomas Davis of Hv., dated Oct. 30, 1683; Wm. Neffe adm., March 25, 1684, bond 1718. Adm. again granted to his great grandson, John Corliss of Hv., 1723, and another inv. 1728-9. Joanna Davis was therefore dau. of Thomas, not sister, as given in Corliss Genealogy.
