Thomas and Eliz (Herriman), Dec. 1, 1704 [ref 51] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Daniel Gordon (Thomas2, Alexander1), born at Haverhill, Mass. 1 Dec. 1704, d at Raymond, N.H. 16 Apr 1786. Daniel's parents moved to Exeter N.H. about 1710. He married Susanna Smith, b. 1706, d. 9 Mar 1786, ae 80y. Record of Cong. Church of Brentwood, N.H. I:117 says, "dau. of Ithiel Smith, wife of Daniel Gordon died . . ." A petition dated 26 Jan 1764 to set off the town of Raymond from a portion of Chester was signed by both Daniel Gordon and Daniel Gordon jr. The petition was granted and Raymond was incorporated in 1764. In 1781 Susanna Gordon was dismissed to join the Baptist Church of Brentwood. Children abt 1735-46: Ithiel, Thomas, Daniel, Susanna, Josiah. The First Church of Kingston, N.H. was organized in 1725. Rev. Ward Clark was pastor until 1738 when he was succeeded by Rev. Joseph Secomb. During two years 1740 to 1742 there were 143 persons admitted to the church. Daniel Gordon and his wife were probably among this number, although they may have been admitted earlier, during the pastorate of Rev. Ward Clark. The fact that there is no record in this church of the baptism of their oldest child, Ithiel, would seem to indicate that the parents were not members of this Church before 1740. Daniel Gordon and wife Susanna, Benoni Gordon and wife Abigail, and Ithiel Smith and wife Hannah, with others, were dismissed by letter from the First Church in Kingston on 24 Jan 1751 to join the new Second Church in Brentwood, which was organized 23 Jul 1751. There were thirty one who came as a colony from the first Church of Kingston. In 1756, the Second Church, then known as the "Gully Church," and the "Borough Church" which was organized in Brentwood about ten or twelve years before the Second Church, were united and became the Union Church of Brentwood. Daniel Gordon and his wife, Benoni Gordon and his wife Hannah all became members of this Union Church. [ref 80:12] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | ||||||||||
