[ref 22] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thomas Gordon, and Eliz Herriman, Nov. 22, 1699 [ref 51] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thomas Gordon (Alexander1), born Exeter, N.H. 1678, d. 1762*. His will was made 2 Dec 1757 and proven 27 May 1761. He married 1st Elizabeth Harriman, dau. of Mathew Harriman and Elizabeth Swan of Haverhill, Mass., who was b. in Haverhill 22** Nov. 1675, d. ca. 1730***. Thomas Gordon m. 2nd after 1720 Rebecca Heard, b. 1709** dau. of Benjamin Heard, cordwainer of Dover, N.H. until 1696 or later, and Elizabeth Roberts. Thomas Gordon acquired the trade of lumbering from his father after whose decease he found employment with Mathew Harriman at Haverhill, Mass., who was cutting lumber there. His first six children were born in Haverhill. About 1710, the Indian wars being over, Thomas bought a tract of land of Peter Coffin in the southwest of Exeter. To it he brought his family. The spot was known as Gordon Hill until 1830-40. Thomas Gordon served in Capt. John Gilman's Company in the Queen Anne's War. Children by Elizabeth: Timothy, Thomas, Diana, Daniel, Abigail, Benoni, Timothy, James, Hannah; children by Rebecca: Nathaniel, Benjamin. In the Exeter, N.H. vital records all the births of this family are recorded as being by Elizabeth Harriman. This can't be so as Elizabeth Harriman died in 1720.
