OBADIAH5 CLEMENTS (Job4, John3, Robert2, Robert1) and Mehetable Ayer, born in Haverhill, Mass., 22 May 1707, died before 30 Nov. 1759, probably in the French War. He married first, in Haverhill, 18 Dec. 1729-30, Priscilla Heath, born in Haverhill, 15 Dec. 1712, died before Dec. 1733, daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Bradley) Heath. He married secondly, in Haverhill, 20 Dec. 1733, Sarah Flanders. Obadiah Clements had no child recorded as by his first wife, Priscilla, but the pension record of a Reuben Clements of Sandown, who was born in 1750, proves him to have been a grandson of Obadiah5 Clements. Since Obadiah's first child by his second wife, Sarah, was born in 1734 and presumably died unmarried, and since his first daughter was born in 1740, the conclusion is forced upon one that there was a child by Priscilla Heath, and that Reuben Clements, the Revolutionary soldier, was a son of this child. The matter is further complicated by the fact that Obadiah also had a son Reuben, born in the same year as his grandson, Reuben. This son Reuben however, lived in Warren, with his brother Jonathan and was said to have been mentally unbalanced at times. Not only is there no record of birth of this child of Priscilla, but there is also no record of marriage or death of any man or woman by the name of Clements, who might have been the parent of Reuben, Obadiah's grandson. Obadiah Clements removed to Kingston, N. H., between 21 May 1743 and 6 Sept. 1749. He evidently settled in [ref 88:170] that part of Kingston which became Sandown, for after his death, the Sandown Church records state that, 30 Nov. 1759, widow Sarah Clement was proposed for membership, and admitted to the church, 13 Jan. 1760. He may have been "of Kingston," after 1743, but he had his children recorded in Haverhill until 1749, also entering their births on the Kingston records. From 1 May to 2 Nov. 1759 he was a member of Capt. Elisha' Winslow's Company in the French War. Children, born in Haverhill, Mass. by Priscilla abt 1730: Childs; by Sarah 1734-53: Job, Daniel, Abraham, Ezekiel, Abigail, Obadiah, Philip, Reuben, Sarah, Reuben, Jonathan. [ref 88:171]
