Joseph Eames, born in Boxford, Mass., 20 Jan. 1713-4, died in Haverhill, between 6 Mar. 1740 and 11 Apr. 1741, son of Joseph and Jemima (___) Eames; married Miriam Clements. Joseph Eames was a joiner or cabinet maker. He spent the twenty-odd years of his life in Haverhill. Child, born in Haverhill, Mass. 1740: Moses. [ref 88:163]

WILL of JOSEPH AMES, 6 Mar 1740 - 13 Apr 1741:

In the Name of God Amen, the sixth day of March 1740, I Joseph Eames of Haverhill ... Joyner being very sick and weak in Body but of perfect mind and memory ... do make and ordain this my last will and Testament ...

Item. I give to my beloved wife Miriam all my household goods, a Cow and twenty pounds in money for her own proper use and behoof forever and also my best coat.

Item. My will is that all my just Debts and funeral Charges be paid by my Executors hereafter named and to enable them to pirform the same my will is that they have full power to make and Lawfully to Execute a Deed of Sale of either my house and land in Haverbill near ye ferry or the fifty Acres of land bought of James Little in said Haverhill, and of but one of them, which they shall think best and that after my said Debts are paid it is my will, ie yt my wife shall have the use and improvement of what remains with the rest of my Estate for her own support and the bringing up of my son Moses Ames to the age of twenty & one years.

Item My will is yt if my son Moses shall die before he arrives at the age of twenty and one years of age, that what Estate then remains, the one half (I) give to my sd wife for her own proper use forever and the other half to my Brothers and sisters Ameses to be equally divided among them. Item. I constitute and ordain Benjamin Gale of Haverhill abovesd with Miriam Eames my beloved wife to be my sole executor of this my last will and Testament....

27 Jan 1755 Moses Ames, "upwards of fourteen" petitioned that Mr. Samuel Clements be appointed his guardian; Samuel Clements, cooper, with John Eaton and Moses Clements on his bond, was duly appointed
