Lieut. John Samborne, b. probably in 1620, son of John Samborne, of England, was Ensign and Lieutenant of the Hampton Military Company. Served in the early Indian wars. Was a minor magistrate and served as Deputy to the General Court. In 1679 was recommended as a Royal Councillor for the Province of New Hampshire. Represented his town of Hampton in many responsible positions. Was prominent in the revolt against the Masonian Claims and was imprisoned by Governor Cranfield. m. (firstly) Mary Tuck; m. (secondly) Margaret (Page) Moulton, dau. of Robert Page, of Ormsby, Norfolk and Hampton, N.H., and widow of William Moulton. Lt. John Sanborn, Hampton, b. �1620, s. of Ann (Batchelder) Sanborn. He and his bros. Stephen and William shared in the Hampt. grants 1640, but their mo. appar. never came. John, the Oldest, was active in town affairs, early and late, and in 1647 his gr.fa. Batchelder settled his Hampt. prop. on him and his posterity, he to pag his bros. and cous. Nathl. Batchelder �20 apiece. Often on jury, gr.j. and town committees. Selectman, 1650, 1661, 1665, 1668, 1672, 1674-5, 1678-9, either he or his son 1688, 1692. When chosen Capt. for Hampton in 1664, it appeared he was not a freeman and the case was referred to the Genl. Ct. Called Ensign in Oct. 1685 and a yr. later legally chosen and confirmed Ensign. Commis. Lieut. 15 Oct. 1679. Ag. �48 in 1668, �60 in 1680. He m. 1st Mary Tuck who d. 30 Dec. 1668; m. 2d 2 Aug. 1671 Margaret (Page) Moulton; d. 20 Oct. 1692.
