WILLIAM, Portsmouth, s. possib. of William of Salisbury, possib. posthum; m. 8 Dec. 1680, Mary Brown, prob. d. of Richard of Newbury, had Richard, Nehemiah, Mary, William, and Elizabeth. He was of the Counc. and Lieut. Gov. of that Prov. rem. to Newbury, there d. 3 Jan. 1729, in 75th yr. His wid. d. 10 June 1739. [ref 20]

William, Esq., Lt.-Gov. of N.H. b. �1654, �39 in 1693, �46 in 1700. A carpenter, and early at Wells; Portsm., working on the meet.-ho. 1678; then Dover, where he fol. his trade, engaged in masting and became a sucess. merchant. Ab. 1690 he ret. from Eng. with a contract to provide masts for His Majesty's service for 7 yrs. and offered Ichabod Plaisted, who refused, �200 a yr. to assume management. Portsm. 1693, Dover, 1695, Boston 1699. Capt., Col. When chosen constable of Portsm. 1692, he repres. it was in prejudice of his office as Treas., and Receiver Genl. of the Prov. Asst. Supreme Ct. Judic. 1693; Lt.-Gov. June 1696 - June 1703. Councillor. Salem 1709, Newb. 1713, where he had m. 8 Dec. 1680 Mary Brown and d. 3 Jan. 1728-9 in 75th yr.
