JOHN, prob. at Ipswich 1635, freem. 25 May 1636, was permit. with Samuel Dudley and others, to found Colchester, soon call. Salisbury, perhaps was f. of that Sarah, wh. m. 3 Apr. 1641, Robert Pike of S. [ref 20]

returned to England several times and may have died there

many sources confuse John with his son John, giving both their wives to each of them

From the Records of Massachusetts, "Mr. Bradstreete, Mr. Dudley Jr., Capt. Dennison, Mr. Clarke of Newbury, Mr. Woodbridge, Mr. Battye [Batt], Mr. Batter, Mr. Winsley, Hen: Bilye, Giles Firman, Richard Kent, and John Sanders," permission "to begin a plantation at Merrimack" was granted them, Sept. 6, 1638, with power to add to their number. The plantation was named "Colechester," Sept. 4, 1639; name changed to "Salsbury," Oct. 7, 1640.
