WASHBURN, John -- The son of John and Margery (Moore) Washburn. The younger John was baptized at Bengeworth, County Worcester, on 26 November 1620, and he arrived at Plymouth with his mother and brother, Philip in 1635. He married (1) on 6 December 1645 Elizabeth Mitchell, daughter of Experience and Jane (Cooke) Mitchell. He married (2) between 1684 and 1686 Elizabeth (___) Packard, widow of Samuel Packard, but he had no children by her. His children by his first wife have sometimes been confused to include those of his brother Philip. John was probably the John Washburn (rather than his father) who was sent from Duxbury in the campaign against the Narragansetts in Sugust 1645. He was made a freeman on 6 June 1654, and became a constable of Duxbury 7 June 1659. He dated his will 30 October 1686, sworn 14 September 1687, and he named his wife Elizabeth; sons John, Thomas, Joseph, Samuel, Jonathan, Benjamin and James; and his daughters Mary, Elizabeth and "her husband," Jane, and Sarah.
