[ref 20] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jacob Mitchell married Susanna Pope Nov 07, 1666 in East Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., MA [ref 23:0873752 item 3] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jacob, prob. b. 1640-46; mar. 7 Nov. 1666, Susanna Pope, dau. of Thomas and Sarah (Jenney) Pope of Plymouth; he settled at Dartmouth (now Fairhaven), was a carpenter and held rank of Ensign. He and his wife were killed by Indians in King Philip's War, June of 1675. Three children, raised by their uncle Edward: Jacob, Thomas, and Mary. [ref 87:2-741] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jacob Mitchell3, son of Experience Mitchell, by his first wife, Jane2* Cooke (Francis), was married at Plymouth, on 7 November, 1666, to Susanna2 Pope (Thomas). They settled at Dartmouth, and both were killed there, by the Indians in 1675. They left three children: Jacob, Thomas and Mary. [ref 93:21-185] *error At a court held 7 March 1675 (17 Mar 1676 New Style), "experience Michell and Edward Michell appointed by the Court to use the best Care to enquire after and take into theire Costody the estate of Jacob Michell Deceased, and to make Report thereof to the Court that soe it may be prefered to the best that may be for the Good of the Children" (Court Orders 5:131) [ref 93:21-185] At a court held 5 March, 1677 "Experience Michell Edward Michell and Joseph Bartlett are allowed and appointed by to be Gaurdians[sic] to the Children of Jacob Michell Deceased to Call in the Debts Due unto the said estate and to Gather the same together and to Improve the same for the future Good of the said Children when they Came to be of age" (Court Orders 5:174) [ref 93:21-185] An "Inventory of the Estate of Jacob Mitchel Late of Dartmouth who deceased in the year 1675" was exhibited to the Court, at Plymouth, on 17 March, 1690/1. The real estate was not appraised. The only personal estate was: money �27, 15s., and Pewter �1. "Thomas Michel Son of Sd Deceased" made oath to the inventory, and administration was granted to "Edward Mitchell of Bridgwater and to Thomas Mitchell Son of Jacob mitchell deceased" (Plym. co probate I:92) [ref 93:21-185] On 17 March, 1690/1 "Edward michell" and "Thomas michell" as administrators, with Edward Fobes of Bridgewater as surety, gave a bond for �30 sterling. The witnesses were "John Haward", John Kingsman and Samuel Sprague (unrecorded bond).
