Notes for Margaret MITCHELL

Margaret, m. 16 June 1725 Nathaniel Littlefield of New Shoreham. Her birth is not recorded, but she must have been the child of Thomas and Margaret Mitchell, for the following reasons: by chronology she must have been the daughter either of Capt. Thomas or of one of his brothers, John and Joseph. Joseph left a well in which neither she nor any of her children are mentioned. In her marriage record she is called "of New Shoreham," but John Mitchell, dissappeared from the Island as far back as 1707. Furthermore, she could not have been the widow of any Mitchell at this time, and consequently she must have been a child of Capt. Thomas Mitchell and was obviously named for her mother. [ref 89:1-707]
