[ref 93:5-52] The Children of Caleb Cook & Jane his Wife 1683-1703: John, Marcy, Ann, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Caleb, James, Joseph [ref 93:4-111] Abstract of the will of "Caleb Cooke Senr of Plymouth . . . Yeoman" 10 February, 1721: "to Jean my dearly beloved wife my best bed and the furniture belonging thereunto also the Lower part of the Westerly End of my dwelling house, also Twenty pounds in good bills of Public Credit in the Province or Currant money of New England to be paid in manner following yearly and every dureing her natural Life. out of the Estate of my Son John hereafter by this Instrument given unto him the sum of five pounds. also out of the Estate hereafter given unto my other three Sons, to wit Caleb James & Joseph five pounds Each. upon default of the payment of all or any Part to Enter upon the Estate of that party that is faulty." To "Son John . . . (under the Consideration above mentioned as also what Shall be hereafter ordered.) all that part of my homestead that Lyeth below the high way bounded begining at a heap of Stones about three Rod and a half to the Southward of a Round cobling Rock that Lyeth in the highway. from thence Extending North Easterly to a Large white Oak Tree and from thence to a Stump that the fence now lyes upon at the head of the marsh from thence Northerly as the fence now Stands till it comes to a Large Rock that is near the Steping Rock and from Sd Rock Westerly to Sd Steping Rock in a Creek and then bounded by Said Creek till it comes to Grays meadow and then bounded by a parcell of Meadow Said John Cooke lately bought of mr Thomas and then bounded by Said Meadow till it comes to James Howlands land and then by Sd James Howlands and Thomas Howlands Land till it comes to the fishing Rock by the water Side and then ranging Southerly by the water Side till it comes to the Land of John Tinkcom and then Ranging Westerly by Sd Tinkcoms Land to the high way and then by said high way til it comes to the bounds first mentioned" To "Son Caleb . . . (under the Consideration aforementioned as also what Shall be hereafter ordered.) all that part of the purchase made from Samuel Fuller that Lyeth to the Northward of Smelt brook till it comes to the foot of a hill about Twenty Rod westward of the high way, and then by the way up into the woods through my Land till it comes to the head of Sd purchase. being all the Northward of sd brook & way. Reserving half an Acre of sd Land on the Northerly corner of the westerly Side of the high way" To "Sons James & Joseph . . . (under the Consideration aforementioned as also what Shall be hereafter Ordered.) all the Houseing Lands and meadow and Swampy Land that I have in the Township of Plymouth or Elsewhere Excepting a purchase I made of John Sturtevant of about an Acre & half of Salt meadow and the reserve out of my Son Calebs part. Notwithstanding what is afore written my will is that there be a way allowed through my sd Land down to the waters Side & up into the woods where it now is." "I do . . . make . . . my Loveing wife Jean Cooke my Sole Executrix" The will was signed by a mark and was witnessed by Sarah Shurtliff, John Dyer and Francis Adams. On 31 March, 1722, Sarah Shurtliff made oath to the will; on 4 April, 1722, the other witnesses made oath; and the will was probated 13 April, 1722. On 6 April, 1722, "the movable estate of Mr Caleb Cooke Late of Plymouth desesed togather with a piece of salt marsh & sedg ground Laying in the township of Plymouth abovsd Lieing one jones river betwen the salt marsh and sedg ground of john cooke and the meadow of charles litle the place being known by the name of canoe creek" was inventoried by Jacob Michell Robart Cushman and Joseph Michell; "salt medow & sedg ground" were valued at �16,10s; "1 read mear and young colt the one half being John Cooks the one half at" �4,5s; "5 cord of wood in fulers field" �1,10s. The total was �193,7s.6d. Debts were due the estate from James Cooke and "wiliam pain of boston" The estate was indebted to "mr John murdoch," Eleazer Rogers, Thomas fileps, John Watson, Esq., Samuel Bartlit, Elisha Cobb, John Dier, Francis Adams, James Barneby, Robert Brown, Dr. Lazarus Lebaron, James Cooke, Elisha Wadsworth, Deborah Ring, hilciah Tinckom junr, John Tinckom; Caleb Cooke for nursing �; Joseph Cooke for nursing �3; John Cooke, Jacob Mitchell, Robert Carver, Charles Little, Dr. Caleb Loring. The amount of indebtedness was �61,7s.6d. The inventory was sworn to, on 9 April, 1722, by "Jane Cooke Executrix . . . of her husband Caleb Cooke late of Plimoth . . . Apr. 1736, Kingston [ref 30] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Abstract of the will of Widow Jane Cooke: "I Jane Cooke of Kingston . . . widdow relict of Caleb Cook of Kingston aforesaid deceased: being Sick and weak of body . . . do Constitute . . . my loving son in law Robert Carver of Kingston aforesaid mariner to be . . . Sole executor to this my last will" "unto my eldest son John Cooke of Kingston aforesd husbandman" 5 shillings. "unto the heirs of my Son Caleb Cook Jun of Kingston aforesd deceased" 5 shillings. "unto my Son James Cooke of Kingston aforesd husbandman" 5 shillings. "unto my Son Joseph Cooke of Kingston aforesaid husbandman" 5 shillings. "unto my daughter anne Johnson the wife of James Johnson late of midleton in the Colony of Connecticut in new england husbandman" �5. "unto the heirs of my daughter Jane harris of bridgwater deceased" �5. "the remainder of my estate I do give unto my other two daughters viz mary carver the wife of Robert Carver of Kingston aforesd and betty Johnson the wife of Robert Johnson of North Yarmoth in the county of york in new england tayler to be equaly divided between them and it is to be understood that this will has no regard to what I have before given to my grandchild Jane Johnson alias morton being a bed with the appurtenances thereof" The will was dated 8 April 1736, and signed by a mark. The witnesses were Abiah Wadsworth, Ebenezer Fuller and Mary Wadsworth, the last signing by a mark. The will was proved 24 April, 1736, all three witnesses being present. The inventory was taken at Kingston, 17 August, 1736, by Joseph Michell, Ebenezer Fuller and Abiah Wadsworth. No real estate was mentioned.
